Lidia Pădureac holds a PhD in History and is an Associate Professor at Alecu Russo Balti State University, with more than 25 years of teaching and research experience. Since 2018, she has served as First Vice-Rector, contributing to the development and strengthening of the quality of university education.
A researcher of contemporary history, specializing in Romanian-Soviet relations, historical memory, totalitarianism, and the history of political repressions, she has coordinated two national projects within the State Program: Recovery and Historical Valorization of the Memory of the Victims of the Totalitarian-Communist Regime in the Moldavian SSR (1940–1941, 1944–1953): Research in the Localities of Northern Moldova and The Organized Famine and Religious Repressions in the Memories of the Victims of the Totalitarian-Communist Regime in the Moldavian SSR: Research in the Localities of Northern Moldova.
Author and co-author of 7 monographs and collective volumes – including Romanians in the Gulag (2014, 2015) and the series Archives of Memory (2016, 2017) – and of more 70 scientific articles, Lidia Pădureac contributes to the consolidation of a culture of memory and to the promotion of democratic and European values within the academic and educational environment.
Throughout her career, she has represented Alecu Russo State University of Bălți in numerous Erasmus+ projects (MHELM, QFORTE, ELEVATE) and in initiatives focused on leadership, university management, and quality assurance in higher education. She serves as an expert evaluator for the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and Research (ANACEC) of the Republic of Moldova. Since February 2025, she has been a member of the Council of Memory, an inter-ministerial body created by a Joint Order of the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Culture, which has a consultative role in coordinating national remembrance policies and public commemoration initiatives.
For her scientific and managerial activity, she has been awarded the Civic Merit Medal, the Dimitrie Cantemir Prize of the Academy of Scientists of Romania, the Book of the Year in Historical Anthropology Award, the Alexandru Boldur Prize of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Promoter of Quality Culture in Education and Research Medal from ANACEC, and the Maria Brâncoveanu Cross Order from the Patriarchate of the Romanian Orthodox Church, as well as Honorary Diplomas from the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Government, and the Ministry of Education and Research.
